Otis has been “practicing” massage (you only get better through practice) for over 17 years.  In that time he has continuously had a home office practice as well as worked for chiropractors, a physical therapy clinic, a hospital, two professional sports teams, and of course Massage Masters.  Otis does chair (a.k.a. on-site) massage, can perform a gentle, relaxing massage, and do clinical bodywork with a variety of deep tissue techniques. When working on a massage table he typically mixes Swedish, sports, and neuromuscular approaches to meet the needs of each client.

Building on a B.S.E. degree in physical education, Otis has had the opportunity to use sports massage in a variety of venues.  He was a sports massage therapist for the 1995 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships and U.S. Open Swimming Championships.  In both 1991 and 1997 he was the event director for sports massage at the U.S. Open Volleyball Championships.  He was also event director for sports massage for the 1996 Veterans Administration National Wheelchair Games.  From 1995-1997 he was a sports massage therapist for Kansas City’s two professional soccer teams, the Wizards and the Attack.  Throw in doing sports massage at a couple of hundred local charity runs, bicycle rides, and triathlons, and you get the idea.

Otis has been teaching for about 40 years.  He has taught swimming to pre-schoolers, wrestling to special education students, computer programming and physical education at the college level, and 5th grade in public school.  At one point on a volunteer teaching mission in South America for the American and International Red Cross, he taught first aid and health in an Argentine women’s prison.  He currently is on the teaching staffs of Massage Therapy Training Institute and Johnson County Community College’s massage program, focusing on anatomy, pathology, kinesiology, business practices, and sports massage.  He frequently is asked to teach sports massage seminars at other schools in Missouri and Kansas.

For Otis, it is all about the clients.  He considers that it is their time, their money, and their body, and they should be in charge.  Body, mind, and spirit are inseparable to him, and to touch one is to touch them all.
